ELSEVIER (CARBON) PRIZE

Elsevier is pleased to announce that the CARBON Journal Prize will again be awarded at the Carbon’07 Conference to be held in Seattle, WA, USA, 15-20 July 2007.

Competition for the award will be open to all graduate students who successfully defended a Ph. D. thesis in the calendar years 2004-2006.  The date of the thesis defence rather than the graduation date is to be used as the criterion for eligibility.  People wishing to be considered for the award shall submit a summary of the major results of the thesis.   The summary shall not exceed five double-spaced pages, including figures, and shall include a statement of the potential importance of the research to carbon science.

Entries must be received by the Editor-in-Chief before March 15, 2007 as a pdf file submitted as an e-mail attachment to p.thrower@virgin.net.  Make sure that any figures are low resolution and are embedded in the file.  The file size should not exceed 2MB.

Each nomination must be accompanied by (a) a one page nomination letter from the thesis advisor and (b) documentation of the successful thesis defence during 2004-06

The award will consist of a cash prize of US $500 and a maximum of US $750 to attend the conference, where the awardee is expected to present a paper on the results of their thesis research.  It is also expected that these results will be, or will have been, submitted to CARBON for publication in the journal.  The awardee and two runners-up will also receive a two year subscription, both printed and in electronic format, to the CARBON journal.

Selection of the awardee will be by an anonymous international panel of carbon scientists appointed by the Editor-in-Chief and the publishers.  It is expected that the awardee will be notified before April 30, 2007.
